Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping) is an evidence based tool to help release negative thought patterns and limiting beliefs.

Similar to acupuncture, we tap on meridian points throughout the body which can produce cognitive shifts. It can been shown to be very useful in treating stress, anxiety, PTSD, cravings, weight gain, phobias and chronic pain

Who may benefit from EFT?

If you are finding it difficult to manage symptoms of anxiety, stress, phobias or long term issues that are affecting your daily life, EFT can help you to get to the root cause of your feelings and emotions. Having been widely used for the treatment of PTSD, EFT is helpful in releasing trauma that maybe held in the body.

Are there any contra-indications to EFT?

If you are suffering from severe mental health issues or psychosis, you are advised to contact your healthcare professional before booking an EFT session.

What happens at an EFT session?

At your first session, you may be a little nervous so I will put you at ease and give you a chance to talk a little about yourself.  I will also tell you a little about me and my code of ethics and confidentiality. I will also explain about the different approaches I may use, depending on your agreement and suitability. I have been helping people for over 30 years in one way or another, and have also personally experienced many traumas and challenges so never feel afraid to mention anything that may help me to understand you better.  We will then go through the Consultation Form you have filled in and I will establish from this and what you tell me, whether I am qualified to help you.  I will always encourage you to ask any questions before deciding whether to go ahead with the session. Occasionally I may give you helpful information to read or ‘home assignments’. Discussing these during your session is important not only for you but it gives me an indication of what is or is not working for you.

Commitment to process

Having made the decision to attend therapy, it is important that you get into a routine of attending regular sessions. A course of at approximately 6 sessions should help you gain the most benefit.  A review will be carried out every 3-4 weeks to see if more sessions are required and if another treatment plan is required. The process of therapy is work and I will discuss with you your treatment and you will be allowed to have a say in your treatment plan.   I will always work with what is best for you.

Effects:

Therapy is not linear so there may be highs and lows but if you are not finding any improvement after a few weeks, you must discuss this with me at your earliest convenience. Remember that if another problem occurs in your life during therapy, this may temporarily hinder your progress. If you are on any medication and feel well enough to come off it, you must discuss that with your psychiatrist or clinician.   If your session included trauma work, some clients may feel worse before they start to feel better.  You may experience stronger emotions (anger, sadness etc) or feel out of sorts, have flu like symptoms or feel lethargic. These effects should lessen after a week and if not, please consult your doctor as it may be attributed to something else.

Ending therapy

I will regularly evaluate your goals and will be monitoring your progress. As a reputable and ethical therapist, I will not extend any therapy longer than is necessary.  Usually, it is a mutual decision to end therapy.  That does not have to be the end though because you may want a “top up” session now and again or need some help with a new situation in your life.   Be assured, I am never that far away.
